Women Raise The Roof

What is Athens Women Raise the Roof?
AWRTR is a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) campaign which provides an environment where women can comfortably learn building skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire.  AWRTR began its first house in Glouster on June 10, 2000. The Rhodes family moved into their new home in January 2001. Our second home, in Nelsonville, was underway by April 2003 and was dedicated in June 2004. House #3 began with a "blitz build" in June 2005 . The home, also in Nelsonville, was ready for the family in 2006. Our fourth home (and third in  Nelsonville) was started in July of 2007 and completed in December 2007.   We dedicated our 5th house on December 6, 2009.  Pictures from the dedication are included on the picture archive page.

What's new in 2011?    We are looking for a few good committee members to help with fundraising events, and preparation for the next WRTR build.  For more information contact the Athens Habitat office at (740) 592-0032.

Social Events

Fundraising
HFH homes in Athens County cost about $80,000 to build. Volunteer labor and donated materials help keep costs low. Each HFH house is sold at no profit to a family in need. The cost of the home is repaid by a no interest mortgage over a fixed period of time. These payments are then recycled to build more houses in Athens County.  AWRTR holds a variety of events to raise money to begin our builds.

Annual Golf Scramble
Our eighth annual Golf Scramble was held Saturday, April 30, 2011.

Annual Flower Sale
The annual flower sale was another success despite a rainy day for pickup on Sunday May 1, 2011.

NEW!  Kroger Rewards Cards
AWRTR appreciates the support you have shown over the last year as a participant in the Kroger Cares program. Your purchases at Kroger (and affiliated stores) have resulted in
the passive raising of about $1,000 to date. This is less than half the amount we were raising under the old gift card program; so, if you have not registered your Kroger card and listed AWRTR as the organization for support, please follow the instructions below.  Every year, beginning on or after April 01, you must reenroll your Kroger card:

1) Go to http://www.krogercommunityrewards.com
2) Click on “Ohio” to sign-up for a Kroger.com account  OR
3) Click on “Already enrolled? Sign in” if you have an account from last year. You will need to enter your email address and the password you created last time.
(Don’t panic, you can email Kroger for the link to re-set your password.)
4) When you have accessed your account, click on “Edit Your Community Rewards Program”
5) On the next screen, check the buttons for “Athens County Habitat for Humanity-WRTR” and save your entries.
6) Logout with our thanks for your continued support.
