Athens Women Raise the Roof
What is Athens Women Raise the Roof?
AWRTR is a Habitat for Humanity (HFH) campaign which provides an environment where women can comfortably learn building skills they might not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire. AWRTR began its first house in Glouster on June 10, 2000. The Rhodes family moved into their new home in January 2001. Our second home, in Nelsonville, was underway by April 2003 and was dedicated in June 2004. House #3 began with a "blitz build" in June 2005 . The home, also in Nelsonville, was ready for the family in 2006. Our fourth home (and third in Nelsonville) was started in July of 2007 and completed in December 2007. What's new in 2008? Social Events
First Friday Social - For most months join us the first Friday at Toscano's at 5:30 p.m. September 5 at Toscano's on the patio if the weather is nice!
Fundraising
HFH homes in Athens County cost about $80,000 to build. Volunteer labor and donated materials help keep costs low. Each HFH house is sold at no profit to a family in need. The cost of the home is repaid by a no interest mortgage over a fixed period of time. These payments are then recycled to build more houses in Athens County. AWRTR holds a variety of events to raise money to begin our builds.
Fall 2008, we will be raffling a 42” LCD TV – more details to come. Drawing will be held at the Beer, Brats & Blues (see below).
Kroger Gift Cards
WRTR sells Kroger gift cards that can be used to make purchases at Kroger and can be "refilled" using cash, check, or your credit card. For every dollar you spend at Kroger, $.05 is donated to WRTR. If you are interested in purchasing Kroger gift cards or having them sold at your place of business contact Valerie Scholl at [ email ].
Beer, Brats and Blues
Our fall Beer, Brats & Blues event has been very popular and is scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2008 at the Athens Community Center. More details to come!
Annual Flower Sale
WRTR holds a flower sale every spring. See you in 2009!
Anual Women's Golf Scramble
Our fifth annual Golf Scramble was held on May 10, 2008.
